Early tea at one of the outdoor restaurants back in the village. Went back to the hotel for the end of the free 2 hour cocktails and snacks that was included in our upgrade. Could have eaten there instead, plenty of food. Carole was disappointed cocktails meant spirit mixers instead of umbrella style cocktails :). When we first got there the only beers in the ice tub were VB and Fosters! But they topped it up with Tiger. Generally beer in Singapore is very expensive relative to other places.
6.45am flight to Kuala Lumpa meant 5am shuttle and not much time to look around the amazing Changing airport. Short 1hr flight to KL then a 3 hour stop. KL airport is also very good. There's a rainforest walk complete with waterfall.
13 hour flight to UK. Gotta love flying with a nipper. 1st to board. Before we took off they moved us back in the plane and gave us 2 rows of 3 seats to stretch out (maybe that helps explain the 165m ringgit loss made by MAS lat year - as Charlie (Aitken) says when it comes to the airline industry own the landlord not the airline). I love airline food. One of the meals was beef tenderloin that was melt in your mouth tender.
Arrived safely in the UK. Ben felt a bit queasy in the guts after we got off the plane and had a bit of a spew in a bin. They called a wheelchair for him! But he was feeling brighter almost straight away. They told us to wait for it as it would whisk us straight through immigration. So we did and it did :) . Quick shuttle to Europecar where we had booked a VW Passat, turned down the offer Audi upgrade as it was £10/day unlike the £2 last trip. They told me to take my pick of the cars in zones 5&6, they all had the keys in them. Just pick one and go! Strolling round trying to choose between Passats, Peugot 308s, Holden Zaffiras and a bunch I didn't know too well. Plonked for a almost brand new Toyota Avensis. Sat nav on my iPhone worked without needing a sim with 3G access. 20k trip to Bracknell went without incident apart from not being able to get it in reverse on arrival. Spent ages trying to work it out before asking some guy having a smoke outside who showed me there's a collar that looks like its part of the leather housing that you need to lift up.
Anyway got our heads down about 8.30 UK time but now I'm up at 3am blogging this in the cafe downstairs which has free wifi.
Easy day Friday, need to find sims for my iPhone and iPad, pick up a child seat from Halfords for Ben (£29 is a lot cheaper than the daily charges of the hire car mobs) then meeting up with Dave, Jacq and the kids for lunch who are here on hols at the same time as us.
Few Singapore picks.
